England Cricket Team vs Pakistan National Cricket Team Match Scorecard: Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi became his country’s highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals on Tuesday, surpassing Haris Rauf during the T20 World Cup Super 8 match against England. The left-arm pacer needed three wickets to move past Rauf’s tally of 133 and reached the milestone at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. Afridi claimed his record-breaking wicket when Jacob Bethell was caught near the boundary as England chased 165.
Afridi struck with the first ball of England’s innings, dismissing Phil Salt for a golden duck. He then removed former England captain Jos Buttler, both catches taken by Usman Khan. Given a third over in the powerplay by skipper Salman Ali Agha, Afridi picked up his third wicket to set the new national record.
Playing his 102nd T20I, Afridi now has 134 wickets for Pakistan. Rauf is second on the list with 133 wickets from 94 matches. Shadab Khan follows with 123 wickets.
Afridi had earlier broken the powerplay wicket record held by New Zealand’s Tim Southee. Southee finished his career with 58 powerplay wickets, while Afridi has now taken 60.
The overall world record for most T20I wickets is held by Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan, who has 193 wickets in 115 matches. New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi is third on the all-time list with 162 wickets.
