Batting first, South Africa recovered from early blows to post 187 for 7 in 20 overs. In reply, India were bowled out for 111 in 18.5 overs. Veteran batter David Miller led the charge with a 35-ball 63, striking the ball cleanly to anchor the innings. Young Dewald Brevis supported him with 45 off 29 balls as the pair stitched a 97-run stand for the fourth wicket in just 51 deliveries.

South Africa were in trouble early after fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh reduced them to 20 for 3 inside four overs. Bumrah returned figures of 3 for 15 in four overs, while Arshdeep claimed 2 for 28. However, Miller and Brevis counter-attacked to lift the scoring rate. Tristan Stubbs added 44 to give the innings further push.

India’s chase never took off. In a surprise move, captain Aiden Markram opened the bowling with his off-spin and dismissed in-form Ishan Kishan for a duck in the first over. Pacer Marco Jansen then struck twice in the powerplay to leave India reeling at 26 for 3. He finished with 4 for 22. Spinner Keshav Maharaj took 3 for 24, while Corbin Bosch claimed 2 for 12. Though Lungi Ngidi went wicketless, he conceded just 15 runs in his four overs to keep the pressure on.

Shivam Dube top-scored for India with 42 off 37 balls, but he found little support from the other end.

Earlier, opener Abhishek Sharma managed 15 after coming into the match on the back of two ducks, but India kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
