South Africa National Cricket Team vs Canada National Cricket Team Match Highlights
Captain Aiden Markram struck a fluent half-century as South Africa opened their Group D campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 with a commanding 57-run victory over Canada on February 9, 2026. Asked to bat first, South Africa piled up 213 for 4 in 20 overs, riding on Markram’s 59 off 32 balls. Canada were then restricted to 156 for 8 in reply.
Markram led from the front, smashing 10 fours and a six in a brisk knock that set the tone early. He found good support from Quinton de Kock, who made 25 off 22 balls, as the pair added 70 runs for the opening wicket in just 6.5 overs. Markram was severe on the Canadian bowlers, taking three boundaries off Dilon Heyliger in the second over and bringing up his half-century in 28 balls with a four off Dilpreet Bajwa in the 10th over.
De Kock was bowled by Bajwa for 25, while Markram’s innings ended when he was caught at long-on off left-arm spinner Ansh Patel. Ryan Rickelton contributed 33 off 21 balls, hitting three fours and a six, before falling to Patel. Dewald Brevis failed to make an impact and was dismissed in the same over as South Africa briefly lost momentum.
However, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs ensured a strong finish. The duo stitched an unbeaten 75-run partnership for the fifth wicket off just 37 balls. Miller remained not out on 39, while Stubbs made 34, as South Africa crossed the 200-run mark comfortably. For Canada, Ansh Patel was the most successful bowler with figures of 3 for 31.
Chasing 214, Canada suffered an early setback when skipper Dilpreet Bajwa edged the first ball of the innings from Lungi Ngidi to wicketkeeper De Kock. Ngidi struck again in the third over, removing Yuvraj Samra and Nicholas Kirton in quick succession as Canada slipped to 26 for 3 in three overs.
Navneet Dhaliwal tried to anchor the innings with a fighting 64, while Harsh Thaker made 33 off 29 balls. The pair added 69 runs for the fifth wicket, but the rising required rate put Canada under pressure. Marco Jansen claimed two wickets in the 18th over to seal the contest. Ngidi finished with 4 for 31, while Jansen returned figures of 2 for 30. Canada eventually closed on 156 for 8 in 20 overs, falling well short of the target.
