India national cricket team defeated the New Zealand national cricket team in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday to claim the 2026 title and become the first team to successfully defend the championship.
India had previously lifted the trophy in the inaugural edition in 2007 and again in 2024. With the latest triumph, the team further strengthened its status as one of the most successful sides in the history of the tournament.
Other nations that have won the T20 World Cup include the England cricket team, Australia national cricket team, Pakistan national cricket team, Sri Lanka national cricket team and the West Indies cricket team.
India’s appearance in the 2026 final also marked its fourth in the tournament’s history, following previous appearances in 2007, 2014 and 2024. England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have each reached the final three times.
