India national cricket team celebrated its historic victory after defeating New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8, 2026. The men in blue produced a commanding performance to secure its third T20 World Cup title. The team first posted a massive total of 255 for 5 in 20 overs before bowling New Zealand out for 159 in 19 overs.
After the final wicket fell, Indian players rushed onto the field to celebrate the victory. Several players draped the Indian tricolour around their shoulders and walked around the stadium as fans cheered from the stands. Images and videos from the celebrations quickly went viral on social media, showing the team embracing each other and posing with the trophy during the post-match festivities.
Here are the most memorable scenes from India’s T20 World Cup celebrations:
India’s victory was set up by a strong batting display. Sanju Samson top-scored with 89 runs, while Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan also struck half-centuries to help the team reach the tournament’s highest total.
In reply, New Zealand struggled to chase the target and was dismissed for 159. Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling attack with four wickets, while Axar Patel claimed three.
Led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, India became the first team to win three men’s T20 World Cup titles. The victory also made India the first host nation to win the tournament and the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title.
Yadav joined former captains MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma as the only Indian skippers to lift the T20 World Cup trophy. Dhoni led India to the inaugural title in 2007, while Rohit guided the team to victory in 2024.
The triumph also marked India’s third consecutive ICC title in white-ball cricket, following victories in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
