India National Cricket Team vs Namibia National Cricket Team Match: India batter Tilak Varma said opener Abhishek Sharma has been discharged from hospital after undergoing medical tests for a stomach infection but remains doubtful for the T20 World Cup match against Namibia. Speaking a day before the fixture at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Varma said a final decision on Abhishek’s availability is yet to be taken.
“When we reached Delhi, he (Abhishek) had been examined. He went to the hospital for the examination. So I think he has been discharged today, and he’s doing well. We have got one more day for the game, so hopefully we’ll decide by tomorrow (Thursday) how he feels, and we’ll go with it," Tilak said.
Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate also addressed the issue. “Abhi still has a few issues with his tummy, but we are hopeful he will be available for the game in two days’ time,” he said.
Abhishek had complained of an upset stomach during India’s opening match against the United States. He was dismissed for a golden duck in that game and did not take the field in the second innings. Reports suggest the weather conditions may also have affected his health. He was absent from the team’s practice session under lights in Delhi.
If Abhishek is ruled out, Sanju Samson is likely to replace him in the playing XI. Samson had opened alongside Abhishek during the T20I series against New Zealand after the Asia Cup 2025 and remains an option at the top of the order. He could partner Ishan Kishan if selected. Samson also batted in the nets on Tuesday and spent time with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak
India head into the Namibia match after a win over the United States in their opener. The team management is also keeping an eye on fitness ahead of the high-profile group clash against Pakistan later this week.
