Opening the innings, Suryavanshi brought up his fifty from just 24 deliveries as India began the chase of a 311-run target at a brisk pace. He struck seven fours and three sixes, collecting most of his runs through boundaries and keeping the run rate in check.
Suryavanshi shared a 90-run opening stand with Aaron George in 57 balls, which helped India stay ahead of the asking rate. The left-handed batter was later dismissed for 68 from 33 balls.
The knock marked Suryavanshi’s third half-century of the tournament. He had earlier scored fifties against Bangladesh in the group stage and Zimbabwe in the Super Six round.
Earlier in the match, Afghanistan posted 310 for four after Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai both scored centuries to set up a strong total.
