Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli congratulated Rajat Patidar on being named the new captain for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Patidar takes over the leadership after RCB parted ways with Faf du Plessis. The franchise did not retain the veteran South African ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Virat Kohli, who led RCB from 2013 to 2021, was also in contention but reportedly opted out of the role.
In a video shared by RCB, Kohli praised Patidar for his growth within the franchise and expressed confidence in his leadership. "I am here to inform everyone that Rajat Patidar will be the new captain for RCB. First I want to congratulate Rajat. The way you have grown at the franchise you have made a place in the hearts of RCB fans. This is very well deserved. Myself and other team members will be behind you… I am very happy for you. You have earned the right to be in this position," Kohli said.

Patidar has been one of RCB’s standout performers in recent seasons. The 30-year-old batter impressed with his consistency in the IPL and domestic cricket. He played a key role in leading Madhya Pradesh to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final. RCB retained him for Rs 11 crore after a strong IPL 2024 campaign where he scored 395 runs at a strike rate of 177.13.
The new captain faces a tough challenge ahead as RCB looks to build a winning squad and end their title drought. The team, known for its passionate fan base, will be hoping Patidar’s leadership brings stability and success in IPL 2025.
