IPL 2026, PBKS vs GT Today Match: Uncapped fast bowler Ashok Sharma made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Gujarat Titans in their 2026 season opener against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. The 23-year-old was handed his maiden IPL cap alongside New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips after an impressive run in domestic cricket.

Who is Ashok Sharma?

Ashok was signed for Rs 90 lakh at the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi following a breakthrough season with Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He finished the 2025-26 edition as the leading wicket-taker, claiming 22 wickets in 10 matches — the most by any bowler in a single season of the tournament.

His consistent wicket-taking ability and ability to deliver under pressure made him one of the most sought-after uncapped players ahead of the auction. His performances not only strengthened Rajasthan’s campaign but also caught the attention of multiple IPL franchises.

A right-arm pacer, Ashok is known for his ability to consistently bowl at speeds exceeding 150 kmph and describes himself as a “hard lengths” bowler.

Before breaking into the Gujarat Titans lineup, Ashok had gained valuable experience within the IPL setup as a net bowler for franchises such as Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. He was also part of Rajasthan Royals’ squad in the 2025 season but did not get an opportunity to feature in a match.

His inclusion in the Gujarat Titans playing XI marks a significant step in his career after years of performing in domestic cricket and waiting for an opportunity at the highest level.
