The 2025 Champions Trophy is approaching its final stage with just two matches remaining in the round-robin group phase. India, New Zealand, and Australia have already secured their places in the semi-finals, leaving one spot still up for grabs. The remaining fixtures will determine the final standings and set the semi-final matchups.

Australia Secures Semi-Final Spot, Afghanistan's Hopes Fade

Australia became the first team from Group B to confirm a semi-final berth after securing four points. Their qualification was sealed following a rain-affected match against Afghanistan in Lahore on Saturday. Despite Afghanistan’s strong batting performance, their chances of advancing now depend on a highly unlikely scenario.

Afghanistan’s Qualification Scenarios

For Afghanistan to keep their semi-final hopes alive, England must defeat South Africa by a margin of at least 207 runs. If England bat second, they would need to chase the target within 11.1 overs, assuming a first-innings total of 300. This makes the England-South Africa clash crucial for Afghanistan’s survival in the tournament.

Who Will India Face in the Semi-Finals?

The winner of Group A will face the second-placed team from Group B in the semi-finals. India, who will play their semi-final in Dubai, could face different opponents based on the final standings.

  • If Australia finish as Group B winners and India lose their last group match against New Zealand, India will face Australia in the semi-finals.
  • If South Africa defeat England and claim the top spot in Group B while India lose to New Zealand, India will take on South Africa in the semi-final.

Current Standings

In Group B, Australia lead with four points from three matches and a net run rate of +0.475. South Africa sit second with three points and one match remaining, holding a strong net run rate of +2.140. In Group A, New Zealand lead on net run rate (+0.863) despite being level with India on four points. India hold a net run rate of +0.647.

The final group-stage matches will determine the official semi-final lineup, setting the stage for an intense conclusion to the Champions Trophy.
