Scotland captain Richie Berrington won the toss and elected to bowl first against the West Indies. West Indies will face an inexperienced Scotland side in the second match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 on Saturday afternoon, February 7. The Group C fixture features the former champions, who enter the tournament as strong favourites with a line-up full of proven T20 specialists.

Scotland will look to pull off an upset at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. They enter the tournament as a late replacement for Bangladesh, who withdrew from the competition. The Caribbean side, meanwhile, aims to make the most of its IPL experience.

West Indies have played five matches in Kolkata, but apart from their memorable 2016 World Cup final win over England, the venue has not been kind to them. They hold a 1-4 win-loss record in T20Is at this ground.

The captain also referenced his team’s famous upset victory over the West Indies in Hobart during the 2022 tournament, noting that the squad holds "really good memories from that day."

West Indies captain Shai Hope admitted he would have also preferred to bowl first, jokingly noting he "hasn't won a toss in a while." Despite the tactical setback, Hope remained confident in his team’s ability to set a competitive total.

"Every time we cross the line, we have to think we will win," Hope stated. "Whenever you represent the region, it's always a great feeling." He also confirmed that his side is "raring to go" as they look to re-establish their dominance on the global stage.
