In reply, Zimbabwe chased down the target with three balls to spare, reaching 182 for four in 19.3 overs. Brian Bennett set the platform with 63, and captain Sikandar Raza scored 45 to guide the side home with steady hitting in the closing stages.
Dushan Hemantha took 2 for 36 for Sri Lanka.
Both teams had already secured qualification for the Super 8s before the match, but the win ensured Zimbabwe advanced as Group B leaders.
