Team India head coach, Rahul Dravid might step down from his role after the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup. As Dravid’s contract expires after the World Cup, the former India cricketer is in no mood to renew it and hence will not continue in the position. The reason Rahul Dravid is not willing to continue as India’s Head Coach is personal.

. As per close sources, Dravid is unsettled by a lot of travelling with the India Cricket Team and a lack of time with his family. It was a contentious issue that BCCI secretary Jay Shah and then President Sourav Ganguly talked him out of when he took charge from Ravi Shastri in 2021.

“It has been a rocky journey for him. Rahul likes a settled life and that is why he did not want to take up the job initially. He has had to manage his family as well as travel with the team on back-to-back long tours. He will take a call on his future even if India win the World Cup,” a BCCI source told InsideSport.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) denies it. An official said that the BCCI will hold talks with Rahul Dravid before or after World Cup on his renewal. But for now, the focus is on winning the World Cup 2023.

Since taking over from Ravi Shastri post-T20 WC 2021 exit, Rahul Dravid has had a mixed record. While under him, India has asserted dominance at home, losing just one series to Australia. However, India have lost to South Africa in both the Test and ODI series away, to Bangladesh in the ODI series away as well as Asia Cup, T20 World Cup and WTC Final.

Team India are currently taking on the West Indies in what will be a full-fledged tour. Rohit Sharma and co. will play one more Test Match followed by a 3-match ODI series and a 5-match T20I series. Following this, they will then travel to Ireland for a short tour wherein they will play the hosts in a 3-match T20I series. Rahul Dravid, who is the current head coach of the Indian national team, however, is unlikely to take up his role for the Ireland series. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Rahul Dravid and his team of support staff are likely to be rested for the series against Ireland. The team of the National Cricket Academy will temporarily replace them during that series. The report states that current NCA chief and former star India batsman VVS Laxman will take over the role from his former teammate. The batting coach role will be held by one of either Sitanshu Kotak or Hrishikesh Kanitkar, while Troy Cooley or Sairaj Bahutule will become the interim bowling coach of the Indian team.
