Indian women’s team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was on Tuesday suspended for the next two international matches for two separate breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct during the recently concluded 3rd ODI between India and Bangladesh.

The India captain's behaviour in the match has been criticised by many. Even Harmanpreet's former teammate, Mithali Raj, blasted the current skipper for her antics in the match. Speaking specifically of her alleged behaviour during the series-end photoshoot, Mithali called Harmanpreet's actions 'disgraceful and atrocious'.

This is not the first time Harmanpreet has courted controversy, she was earlier involved in a fake degree row.

For the unversed, Harmanpreet was removed from the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) by Punjab Police as her graduation degree turned out to be fake.

The decision was taken by the home department and Kaur is likely to be demoted to the post of a constable as her qualification now gets reduced to Class XII pass. Punjab Police decided not to initiate any legal proceedings against the cricketer.

According to reports, Harmanpreet, hailing from Punjab’s Moga area, had submitted her graduation degree purportedly conferred upon her by Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut. However, on verification, the degree turned out to be fake. The university denied having had her as a student.

The case then went to the home department, headed by chief minister captain Amarinder Singh.

Harmanpreet, an Arjuna awardee, was earlier an employee of the Indian Railways. She had resigned from the railways job to join Punjab Police.

Harmanpreet’s family had earlier denied the allegations. “She did her schooling from Moga and was then selected in the Indian cricket team. She completed her remaining studies from Delhi and Meerut. She was provided a job by the Indian Railways on the basis of the same documents,” Harmanpreet’s father Harminder Singh said.

Harmanpreet also defended herself saying she completed her graduation and was not just a 12th pass.

Harmanpreet said she also took admission for a post-graduation course on the basis of her graduation degree. The 29-year-old also added that she could not pursue the post-graduation course due to cricketing commitments. The Indian women's T20 captain was appointed as DSP Punjab police in 2018. Former, Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh had offered the post of DSP to Harmanpreet following her scintillating performance in the Women's World Cup 2017.
