The Indian team had a strong performance in the 2019 ODI World Cup. But in the semi-finals, India lost to New Zealand.

It was former captain Dhoni’s last international match. After that, Dhoni announced his decision to retire in August 2020 as he did not get a place in the team for a year.

Along with Dhoni, another veteran player has been dropped from the squad after the 2019 World Cup and has yet to find a place in the squad again. That player is the experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik.

Dinesh Karthik has played 26 Tests, 94 ODIs and 32 T20I matches for India so far. He expressed his feelings in an interview.

“My main goal now is to play for Team India once again. I want to play in the T20 team. Because the fire of T20 has not cooled down yet,” said Karthik.

“I still want to play for Team India. That is why I am currently training, practicing and exercising. I will continue to play cricket for the next three years. Because I love cricket with all my heart,” said Karthik.

“I still play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Vijay Hazare tournament to get a chance in Team India. Playing this tournament keeps me ‘up to date’ in cricket,” said Karthik.

“There was no suitable player to play the role of finisher in the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2021. I would like to play this role,” he said.

“Looking at my team’s playing statistics, performance as well as my performance in domestic competitions and IPL, I have definitely put in a strong performance. So I will not say more than that. My game will answer everyone,” said Dinesh Karthik.
