Under Virat Kohli, India had taken a 2-1 lead on the tour of England last year, but in the fifth match of the series, India, led by Jasprit Bumrah, suffered a humiliating defeat.

In reply to India's 416 in the first innings, England were bowled out for 284 in the first innings. Despite taking a 132-run lead, India could not match the performance in the second innings. Cheteshwar Pujara (66) and Rishabh Pant (57) helped India reach 245 runs.

Jack Crowley (46) and Alex Lease (56) added 107 runs for the first wicket. India then came back with three wickets for two runs. However, Joe Root (142 *) and Johnny Bairstow (114 *) did all the math. He is an Indian bowler

After this defeat, the Indian team remains at the third position in the WTC 23 Point Table with 77 points. England are seventh with 64 points. Australia topped the list with 84 points and 77.78 per cent, followed by South Africa with 60 points and 71.43 per cent.

Losing a Test series on a tour of South Africa has also cost India dearly. India could not successfully defend 240 and 212 runs against Africa. Against England, India scored 378 in the fourth innings.
