In 2012, the Deccan Chargers removed Kumar Sangakkara from the captaincy in the middle of the season. Cameron White was also named captain. The Deccan Chargers are no longer in the IPL.

In the 2012 IPL, RCB had made Virat Kohli its captain, removing Daniel Vettori from the team. RCB finished fifth that season.

Mumbai Indians had replaced Rohit Sharma as captain in the 2013 IPL by removing Ricky Ponting from the captaincy in the middle of the season. After that, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians won the IPL title for the first time.

In 2013, Kings XI Punjab removed Adam Gilchrist from the captaincy in the middle of the season. David Hussey was then named captain.
