Ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, here is a look at the costliest players from each of the 14 previous auctions in the history of the premier T20 league.

When it comes to the most expensive players in the IPL, the name of Mahendra Singh Dhoni comes first. He was bought by Chennai Super Kings in 2008 for around Rs 9.5 crore. After Dhoni's captaincy, CSK has won the titles of 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021.

Andrew Flintoff was the most expensive in IPL-2009. 9.8 crore was bid on them. Kevin Peterson was also the most expensive player in the same season. These too had a bid of Rs 9.8 crore. Kevin Peterson was bought by RCB while Flintoff was bought by CSK.

Mumbai Indians were the biggest winners from the auction as they snapped up a young Kieron Pollard for Rs 4.8 crore.

In IPL 2011, Kolkata Knight Riders had spent Rs 14.9 crore for Gautam Gambhir.

In the IPL 2012 auction, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was bought by Chennai Super Kings for around Rs 98 million. He proved to be the most expensive player of the year.

Glenn Maxwell of Australia was the most expensive player in the IPL-2013 auction. He was bought by Mumbai Indians for around Rs 6.3 crore.

Yuvraj Singh was the most expensive player in the 2014 and 2015 IPL auctions. In 2015, a bid of Rs 16 crore was placed on Yuvraj. In 2014, RCB spent Rs 14 crore on Yuvraj.

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson was bought by RCB for Rs 9.5 crore in the IPL 2016 auction.

After this, Ben Stokes was the most expensive player in IPL-2017. He was bought by Rising Pune Supergiant for Rs 14.5 crore. Ben Stokes was also the most expensive in IPL-2018. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 12.5 crore.

Left-arm bowler Jaydev Unadkat was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2019 auction. On the other hand, Varun Chakraborty was also bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 8.4 crore by making the highest bid.

The most expensive bid in the auction of IPL 2020 was made by Australian bowler Pat Cummins. Kolkata Knight Riders spent Rs 15.5 crore to include Cummins in their squad.

In the IPL 2021 auction, Rajasthan Royals had made a hefty bid of Rs 16.25 to buy South African all-rounder Chris Morris. In this way he became the most expensive player sold in IPL history. (All photos - IPL Twitter and BCCI)
