Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with sportspersons across the country via video call on Friday. He appealed to the sports stars to raise awareness among the people to fight the coronavirus.

Prime Minister praised the sportspersons for bringing glory to the nation through stellar performances on the field. Now they have a very important role to play in boosting the morale of the nation as well as spreading the message of social distancing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held meeting with 40 top sportspersons from various sports via video conferencing on #COVID19 situation in the country.

Prime Minister asked them to include the following five points in their message to people.

‘Sankalp’ to fight the pandemic

‘Sanyam’ to follow social distancing

‘Samman’ to respect the frontline soldiers in this battle including the medical fraternity, the police personnel etc

‘Sakaratmakta’ to maintain positivity

‘Sahyog’ at personal level as well as at national level through contribution to PM-CARES fund

More than 40 top sportspersons from across disciplines including Bharat Ratna Shri Sachin Tendulkar, BCCI President Shri Sourav Ganguly, Women’s Hockey team captain Ms. Rani Rampal, ace badminton player Ms. PV Sindhu, Kabaddi player and DSP in Himachal Pradesh Police Shri Ajay Thakur, sprinter Ms Hima Das, para athlete high jumper Shri Sharad Kumar, top tennis player Ms. Ankita Raina, mercurial cricketer Shri Yuvraj Singh and Men’s cricket team captain Shri Virat Kohli participated in the video conference.
