The moment of Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) has finally come. The 13th season of the IPL will be played in the United Arab Emirates from September 19 to November 8. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started all preparations for this.

IPL 2020 which was slated for March 29, was postponed twice due to the coronavirus. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the postponement of the T20 World Cup, paving the way for the IPL.

The BCCI is the richest organization in the world of cricket and the profits they make through the IPL are huge. That is why the BCCI was insistent for the IPL and they finally succeeded. Now they are just waiting for the permission of the central government.

But, what if the IPL had not taken place?

Star TV has signed a Rs 3,300 crore annual contract with the BCCI for the IPL. Star has paid Rs 2,000 crore to the BCCI for this year's IPL. Therefore, if the IPL had not taken place, the BCCI would have had to spend Rs 3,300 crore from their pockets.

The BCCI gets Rs 440 crore annually as title sponsor along with Vivo. Therefore, the BCCI considered it appropriate to remain silent even after the Indo-China border dispute erupted and a boycott of Chinese goods was demanded.

BCCI makes a profit of Rs 170 crore from sponsors like Dream11, Paytm CEAT etc.

The proceeds from the IPL cover the salaries of Indian cricketers and the cost of organizing local competitions. 2000 local cricket matches are played annually from the revenue in the IPL.

In addition, women's cricket and other grassroots level activities are funded through IPL sponsorship money.
