The film featured Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role of a NASA scientist. It’s music was scored by Oscar and Grammy-winning composer A. R. Rahman with lyrics furnished by Javed Akhtar.

Ashutosh Gowariker said, "Twenty years ago, we embarked on this journey with 'Swades,' a film born from a deep-seated desire to explore the complexities of identity, belonging, and social responsibility. To see how 'Swades' continues to resonate with audiences today, to witness its enduring impact on their lives, is truly humbling. It's a reminder of the power of cinema to transcend time and connect with people on a profound level”.

It is widely regarded as one of Shah Rukh Khan’s finest performances, portraying the journey of an NRI who returns to India to find his roots and make a difference in his homeland.

Producer Sunita Gowariker said, "Looking back on 'Swades', our first film, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude. It was a journey of discovery, not just for the characters on screen, but for us as filmmakers. We learned so much about the power of storytelling to inspire change and ignite conversations about social responsibility. I thank every single person who contributed to this film, from the Actors and HOD's to the Crew members who worked tirelessly behind the scenes”.

The film was produced by Ashutosh Gowariker Productions Pvt Ltd.

‘Swades’ has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema and continues to inspire generations with its powerful message of self-discovery and social responsibility.
