Aamir Khan recently announced that he has fallen in love again and introduced his new girlfriend, Gauri. As the couple interacted with the media, one detail surprised many—Gauri was largely unfamiliar with Aamir’s work and filmography, as she doesn’t watch many Hindi films.
During media interaction Gauri admitted that she hadn’t watched many. Aamir explained, “She grew up in Bangalore, and her exposure was to different kinds of films and arts. So she doesn’t watch Hindi films much. She has probably not seen a lot of my work either.” Gauri added that she had watched Dil Chahta Hai and Lagaan, but that was years ago.
When asked whether Gauri’s unfamiliarity with his work benefited their relationship, both agreed that it did. “She doesn’t see me as a superstar but as a partner,” Aamir said. He also expressed his desire for her to watch Taare Zameen Par, adding that since the film was being re-released in theatres as part of his festival Cinema Ka Jadugar, they would try to catch it on the big screen together.
Speaking about their journey, Aamir revealed that he and Gauri first met 25 years ago but lost touch before reconnecting two years ago. “I was looking for someone I could be calm with, someone who gives me peace. And there she was,” he said. Gauri also shared what she was looking for in a partner and why she was drawn to Aamir. “I wanted someone who was kind, a gentleman, and just caring,” she said, prompting Aamir to joke, “And after all that, you found me?”
