Abhay Deol's 2013 release, Raanjhanaa is widely considered one of the acclaimed films in Bollywood. Upon its release the Aanand L. Rai directorial starring Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush received positive reviews from both critics and audience alike. However, Abhay Deol who essayed a pivotal role in the film has panned the movie for the message it delivered. Taking to his Instagram the Dev D star, pointed few insights about the film mentioned by a user. Abhay, mentioned how history will not look kindly at his film for its regressive message. Continuing further, the actor, stated how such themes are always prevalant only in B-town. He also shared screengrabs of another Instagram post that talked about the film and how 'regressive' the message of Raanjhanaa has been.
Raanjhanaa, which was directed by Aanand L Rai, also featured Swara Bhasker, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Kumud Mishra in pivotal roles. While Dhanush bagged Filmfare Best debut award, AR Rahman's music was an instant hit. Even Abhay Deol's role of a student union leader in the film received a lot of praise. The actor earlier added, that it took Sushant's death for everyone to speak about the corrupt Bollywood practices. Earlier, Abhay Deol made a shocking revelation about why he had boycotted the award shows of the industry. Abhay had shared his experience with award shows during the time of ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’.On the work front, Abhay was last seen in a Netflix film ‘What Are the Odds’ along with Yashaswini Dayama and Karanvir Malhotra.
