Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has said that the recently released Dhurandhar: The Revenge is a strong film aimed at adult audiences, while his upcoming horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla is designed as family entertainment suitable for children as well. The second instalment of filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s spy drama series, starring Ranveer Singh, has emerged as a major box-office success. Released four days ago, the film has reportedly collected around ₹761 crore worldwide and is expected to soon cross the ₹1,000-crore mark.
Meanwhile, Kumar’s upcoming film Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan, is set to hit theatres on April 10. The actor and the director are optimistic about the film’s reception among audiences. Responding to a question about whether making a light-hearted film was a conscious choice at a time when action-packed and violent movies dominate the box office, Kumar said the team did not follow industry trends while deciding on the project.
“There are different kinds of films being made. ‘Dhurandhar’ is a great film, I’ve seen it. This (‘Bhooth Bangla’) is a different film. ‘Dhurandhar’ is an adult film, while ‘Bhooth Bangla’ is for kids and families,” Kumar said in an interview with PTI. He added that the filmmakers focused only on the strength of the story rather than prevailing trends in the industry. “When we made this film, we didn’t look at what the current trend is. We rather looked at whether the story was good or not and accordingly made the film. We never thought about the trend,” Kumar said.
Recently, Dhurandhar 2 received praise from India’s biggest superstar Rajinikanth, who called the film “box office ka baap.” After watching the movie, Rajinikanth took to X and wrote, “What a film … #Dhurandhar2 !!!
