Filmmaker Aanand L Rai is set to release his upcoming directorial 'Atrangi Re', featuring Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan and South star Dhanush, on August 6 thus year. Last year, in October, the star cast along with the entire team has resumed the shoot of the film in Madurai and followed it up in Delhi. The AR Rahman musical will mark the filmmaker’s first theatrical release this year. "With theatres up and running, 'Atrangi Re' is all set for a release this year. The AR Rahman musical will be hitting the screens on August 6, 2021," the film's makers said in a statement. The film, reunites Dhanush and Rai after their 2013 critical hit Raanjhanaa. Akshay Kumar will be seen in a special cameo appearance as per reports in the media. 'Atrangi Re' will be Akki's third release of 2021.
The 53-year-old actor will also be seen in espionage thriller 'Bellbottom', scheduled to release on May 28, and Yash Raj Films' 'Prithviraj', which will hit the theatres this Diwali. Earlier, a few pictures from the sets of the film in Agra were doing rounds on the internet. Those pictures offered a glimpse into the world of Atrangi Re featuring Akshay in the avatar of a king and Sara in an all-pink ethnic ensemble. Even Dhanush took to his social media to share a glimpse of him shooting for the film against the backdrop of the Taj Mahal.The film is written by Himanshu Sharma and it is produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series, Colour Yellow Productions and Cape of Good Films. With songs penned by Irshad Kamil, music maestro AR Rahman has composed the album for the film.
