Actor Avinash Tiwary is set to return to the big screen with his upcoming film Ginny Weds Sunny 2, and the recently released trailer has already generated buzz among audiences. During the trailer launch event, Avinash spoke candidly about the noticeable decline of family-oriented films in Bollywood. He pointed out that, in today’s time, there are very few movies that can be comfortably enjoyed by an entire family together. Emphasizing the importance of such cinema, he expressed that filmmakers should consistently create stories that bring families together, as these films play a vital role in strengthening shared viewing experiences.

Speaking further about the changing dynamics of the film industry, Avinash highlighted how evolving lifestyles have impacted audience preferences. He explained that the traditional joint family system is gradually fading, as more people are moving to cities for work and business opportunities. As a result, social habits have shifted, with individuals now preferring to spend time with friends rather than family. Additionally, rising ticket prices and a growing trend of making films based on niche personal tastes have pushed family-centric storytelling into the background. According to him, these factors collectively contribute to the diminishing presence of wholesome, family-friendly cinema in theatres today.

Sharing a personal anecdote, Avinash admitted that even the children in his own family have not watched his films yet. When he once asked his sister-in-law about it, she gave a straightforward response, saying that his roles in films like Laila Majnu and Bulbbul were not suitable for children—one portraying intense madness and the other involving supernatural elements. This made Avinash realise that, despite playing diverse characters throughout his career, none of his projects so far have been appropriate for young audiences or for families to enjoy together. The incident served as a moment of reflection for the actor on the kind of stories he has been a part of.

Discussing the commercial aspect of family films, Avinash also raised an important point about box office economics. He mentioned that the last true family entertainer he watched was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in 2023. While filmmakers often complain about poor ticket sales, he argued that a well-made family drama can attract multiple viewers at once, as entire families tend to watch such films together, resulting in higher ticket sales. He questioned why this simple logic is often overlooked by producers, suggesting that investing in family-oriented content could be both creatively fulfilling and commercially successful.
