Rajnikanth's much awaited cop drama Darbar has finally hit the theatres and the superstar is back as a police officer after gap of nearly 25 years. The film which is set in Mumbai backdrop revolves around the drug mafia and chid trafficking issue in the city of dreams. Hari Chopra (Suniel Shetty) murders a bunch of cops in Mumbai and flees the country to rise among the ranks as one of worlds biggest drug dealers. Meanwhile, Aditya Arunasalam (Rajnikanth) and his daughter Valli(Nivetha Thomas ) come to Mumbai were the former takes up the job of freeing the city from the drug dealers. 

In one of his operations Aaditya nabs Ajay Malhotra (Prateik Babbar) who is the son of Hari Chopra but the twist in the tale comes when Ajay is eliminated by Aditya. Seeking revenge Hari returns to India targetting Aditya and his daughter. Rajinkanth comfortably carries the film on his ageing shoulders and the superstars comic timing makes the first half worth viewing. Though the promotions of the film have been low-key the movie has managed to create enough buzz among moviegoers. The director has smartly managed to add a mix of action and drama in which Rajnikanth's acting is the film's strongest selling point.
