Actress Richa Chadha mourned the death of actor Asif Basra who was found dead at his house in McLeod Ganj on Thursday morning. Expressing shock and dismay over the news of Basra’s death, the actor wrote, on her Twitter, "Depression is the the silent killer in our business, in our society, RIP Asif Basra, you shall be missed." A number of other celebs including Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Priyanka Chopra offered their condolences on social media. Filmmaker Hansal Mehta was among the first from the industry to react to the death. “Can’t be true... This is just very, very sad,” he wrote.

As reported by The Tribune, Basra had leased two houses in Dharamshala and he was living in one of the houses with his UK-based girlfriend and a dog. The actor reportedly used his dog’s leash to hang himself to the ceiling of his room and his body was first discovered by his girlfriend who went out looking for him after he took his dog out for a walk.

Starting his career in 1998 with Woh, Asif was last seen in the second season of Disney+ Hotstar series Hostages. He also starred as a senior executive in a media house in Amazon Prime’s Paatal Lok, which released earlier this year. Asif has also been seen in films such as Jab We Met, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Krrish 3, Ek Villain, Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday and Rahul Dholakia’s Parzania, among many others.
