Actress and activist Somy Ali, who has worked with veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty in several popular films such as Krishna Avatar, Yaar Gaddar, and Teesra Kaun, has come forward to support his recent statement on unity and equality—an issue that has become a major talking point in India.

When contacted, Somy shared her thoughts and expressed deep respect for Mithun Da, as she fondly calls him.

“As someone who has lived between two worlds—Karachi and Miami, Bollywood and Hollywood, Islam and Hinduism—I’ve seen both division and unity up close,” she said. “That’s why I want to publicly support Mithun Chakraborty. I had the honor of working with him and witnessing his calm strength and dignity. His recent message about equality and justice truly moved me. In today’s world where it’s so easy to divide people, Mithun Da reminds us to come together.”

Somy continued, “I believe our identities—whether religion, culture, or background—should bring us closer, not tear us apart. We’re more similar than we think. It’s time we create a world where everyone is treated equally, no matter their religion, gender, or who they love.”

Backing Mithun Da’s call for fairness, Somy added her voice to the demand for a Uniform Civil Code in India. “Every citizen should have equal rights when it comes to land, inheritance, dignity, and legal protection. Whether you are Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain, LGBTQ+, or follow no religion at all—you matter.”

Somy also spoke about her work through her nonprofit organization, No More Tears, which has helped over 50,000 survivors of abuse. “One thing I’ve learned is that abuse grows in silence. But justice grows when we speak the truth. We must not be afraid to stand up for what’s right.”

We truly appreciate Somy Ali’s heartfelt words and her support for Mithun Da’s powerful message. Unity, equality, and justice are values worth standing up for—and voices like hers make a difference.
