Actor Ronit Roy, known for his good looks and dashing personality, gained recognition through the TV show Kasautii Zindagii Kay, where he played the role of Rishabh Bajaj. Later, he worked in a few TV serials and Hindi films. A few years ago, he appeared as a villain in Hrithik Roshan’s movie Kaabil. However, there was a time when Ronit stopped getting work. The Adaalat actor said that there was a time when he had barely any work opportunities at hand, and he became an alcoholic. He said that he had no money to buy food, yet somehow he managed to buy alcohol.

Recently, he opened up about that difficult phase in his life. In an interview on the redcarpet, Ronit Roy said, "I started getting fewer work opportunities, and I turned to alcohol. Everything fell apart after that. My life was ruined. I didn’t even have money for food, but somehow, I always managed to buy alcohol. I don’t know how, but I always found a way to get it. Seeing my condition, a friend suggested that I start a business. He told me that even if I wasn’t getting film offers, my face and name were still popular. So, I took training at my friend’s security company and started my own company."

Describing his situation and the wrong career choices he made, he said, “I am an honest kind of guy, I can only tell you the way it was. It was (the result of) hunger, poverty. Every great step that I have taken in my life has come out of desperation, frustration, and poverty. There was a time when my debut film was a silver jubilee, and after that, I didn’t get any work. I have no idea why. I got frustrated. I got no work. I got so scared. I had rent to pay, I had to feed myself. What would you do with no money? So I kind of signed the wrong films, and they flopped. Then I went back to square one and had no work.”

Sharing how he pulled himself together and made a comeback as an actor, he said, "I pulled myself together, ran the company, and made it successful. At the same time, I shifted my focus back to television. It was reported that I had ‘shifted’ to TV, but it wasn’t a choice - it was my compulsion. Luckily, I got good serials like Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Bandini, which became hits."
