Boong, the debut feature film of Manipuri director Lakshmipriya Devi, has scripted history by becoming the first and only Indian film ever to win a BAFTA Award. The coming-of-age film won the Best Children’s & Family Film honour at the 79th British Academy Film Awards, marking a landmark moment for Indian cinema on the global stage.

Backed by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment, along with Chalkboard Entertainment and Suitable Pictures, the film triumphed over major international contenders including Zootopia 2, Lilo & Stitch, and Arco. The historic achievement has been widely celebrated by filmmakers, political leaders, and audiences alike.

Following the global recognition, producer Ritesh Sidhwani was seen with his Wife Dolly Sidhwani and son Arav Sidhwani returning to Mumbai with the prestigious BAFTA trophy, marking a proud moment as the honour arrived in India.

Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, the heartfelt children’s drama has travelled across several prestigious global platforms, representing a significant collaboration that brings regional Indian storytelling to the international stage. The film has received widespread appreciation for its authentic storytelling and emotional depth.

The story of boong revolves around a young boy who plans to surprise his mother with a special gift, believing that reuniting her with his absentee father would be the most meaningful present.
