Bollywood star Deepika Padukone visited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Tuesday evening to express solidarity with students who were attacked by masked mobs on Sunday. The actor reached the university campus at around 7.40 pm and attended a public meeting, called by JNU Teacher’s Association and JNUSU in response to Sunday’s attack on students and teachers by a masked goons armed with sticks and rods. However, she did not speak or address the gathering. 

Deepika greeted JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh, who was injured by the goons, and stood as former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar raised slogans against the violence. Many Bollywood celebrities have condemned the attacks and  have expressed their protest on social media. Deepika's upcoming film Chhapaak is slated for a release on January 10, 2020, and the movie will also be co-starring Vikrant Massey. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the movie narrates the story of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, and the movie is indeed one of the most awaited films of this year.
