The Mumbai Dabbawala Association has formally appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging him to grant tax-free status to the movie Chhaava. The film, starring Vicky Kaushal, is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, showcasing his heroic journey and sacrifices as a revered Maratha king.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, the association emphasized its historical ties to the Maval region, where many Dabbawalas hail from. "Our ancestors were warriors in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj's army, fighting alongside him on the battlefield. Both Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj hold a special place in our hearts," said Subhash Talekar, the president of the Mumbai Dabbawala Association.
The association praised Chhaava for its authentic portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj's life and sacrifices, believing that the film can inspire future generations. They argued that granting tax exemption would help reach a wider audience and allow more people to connect with the Maratha king’s legacy and courage.
Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Maddock Films, Chhaava stars Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Rashmika Mandanna as his wife Maharani Yesubai. The Hindi period drama brings to life the courageous story of the Maratha ruler, starting with his coronation in 1681.
