Veteran actress Neena Gupta, known for her unconventional approach to life, is redefining the role of a grandmother. Despite being a celebrated name from the 1990s era, she has always stayed in sync with modern times. Now, as she embraces grandmotherhood following the birth of her daughter Masaba Gupta's baby girl, Matara, Neena has chosen to forgo the traditional ‘naani’ title and instead wants to be addressed simply as “Neena.”

In a recent interview with ANI, Neena shared her thoughts on the modern grandparenting dynamic**, expressing that she doesn’t feel like a typical grandmother. She stated: "I don’t feel like a grandmother. In fact, I have told the little one not to call me naani but to call me Neena."

This decision reflects her desire to move away from traditional labels and maintain a youthful outlook on life. Neena’s daughter, fashion designer Masaba Gupta, married actor Satyadeep Misra on January 27, 2023. In April 2024, the couple welcomed their baby girl, Matara, sharing the joyous news on Instagram. They posted a picture with the heartfelt message:

On the work front, Neena Gupta is all set to portray a grandmother in her upcoming film, ‘Hindi Vindi.’ Interestingly, her reel-life character also breaks stereotypes. Speaking about her role, she shared: "In the film, I am playing a very smart grandmother who is a music teacher in India. The story revolves around a grandmother and her grandson, played by Mihir (Ahuja), who is also a musician. It’s a very emotional and real story that people will connect with."

The film also features Guy Sebastian, who plays the father of Mihir’s character, adding a strong musical element to the story.
