Producer Nikhil Dwivedi has come out in strong support of Deepika Padukone, backing her stance on maintaining a balanced work schedule after becoming a new mother. His remarks have sparked a wider conversation within the film industry about compassion, realistic working hours, and the importance of parental presence during early motherhood.

Speaking about Deepika Padukone recently, Nikhil Dwivedi said, “I am sure she has worked for 10 hours, 12 hours, even 14 hours earlier. She has just become a new mother, and I think we should look at this with a little kindness.” Emphasising on the importance of parental presence especially for an infant, he added, “For a newborn baby, it is very important to have either the mother or the father around, and especially the mother.”

Dwivedi’s comments underline a growing shift in conversations around work-life balance in the entertainment industry—particularly for women returning to work after childbirth. By acknowledging Deepika’s long-standing reputation for professionalism and hard work, he dismissed any notion that her request for structured working hours stems from unwillingness or lack of commitment.

The producer further addressed the issue of working hours by citing Deepika’s example and explaining the practical reasoning behind formalising schedules. “If she is working for eight or nine hours, sometimes it gets written on paper so that the producer doesn’t start demanding 12 hour shifts when she can’t do it. I am sure if Deepika had to work for nine or more during an important day, she would have done it.”

His statement highlights the need for clarity and mutual respect on film sets, especially when artists are navigating significant life changes. By advocating kindness and understanding, Dwivedi reinforced the idea that accommodating a new mother’s needs does not weaken professionalism—instead, it reflects a more evolved and humane work culture.
