O Romeo Box Office Collection Day 1: The romantic action drama O Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, opened to Rs 8.5 crore on its first day at the domestic box office, according to trade website Sacnilk. The film released in theatres on Friday and is expected to see a rise in numbers over the weekend. While it did not cross the double-digit mark on Day 1, it performed better than some of Shahid Kapoor’s recent releases.
Shahid’s earlier film Deva, directed by Rosshan Andrrews, had opened at Rs 5.50 crore. Meanwhile, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, co-starring Kriti Sanon, collected Rs 6.70 crore on its opening day.
As per early estimates, the film added Rs 0.99 crore on Saturday, taking its total collection so far to Rs 9.49 crore. The Day 2 figures are expected to improve as the weekend progresses.
O Romeo recorded an overall 14.86 percent occupancy on Friday. Morning shows registered 8.63 percent, which increased to 12.17 percent in the afternoon. Evening shows saw 13.66 percent occupancy, while night shows recorded the highest footfall at 24.97 percent.
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and and produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the film is a dark tale of love, passion and action. It is based on the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi, which also inspired Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In O Romeo, Shahid Kapoor plays gangster Hussain Ustara, while Triptii Dimri essays Afsha, a character said to be inspired by Ashraf Khan, also known as Sapna Didi.
Apart from Shahid and Triptii, the film also features Vikrant Massey, Tamannaah Bhatia, Avinash Tiwary, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal and Nana Patekar in key roles.
