Actor Rani Mukerji recently reflected on one of the most transformative films of her career, Black, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Speaking about the experience, the actor credited Bhansali’s faith and vision for shaping one of the most defining performances of her career. Often spoken of in the same breath as legends like Guru Dutt and Raj Kapoor, Bhansali today stands tall as a living legend whose cinema goes far beyond box office numbers. Regarded as a filmmaker worthy of being mentioned alongside icons like K. Asif, he has set a benchmark for telling Indian stories in their most authentic and visually grand form while taking Indian cinema to the global stage.

Recalling the moment she was offered the role, Mukerji admitted she was surprised that Bhansali believed she could take on such a demanding character. “I won’t ever be able to recreate that magic. I was in disbelief that Sanjay Leela Bhansali thought I could pull off a role like that,” she shared, highlighting how his confidence in her abilities pushed her to deliver one of the most memorable performances of her career.
