Baramati (Maharashtra) [India], January 29 : Actor Riteish Deshmukh on Thursday attended the last rites of Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar in Baramati. The NCP leader died in a plane crash on Wednesday.

In visuals that surfaced online, Riteish was seen paying his last respects to Ajit Pawar, placing floral wreaths on the mortal remains.

Earlier, Riteish, son of Congress leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, penned an emotional note on X, expressing grief over the demise of Ajit Pawar.

"Deeply shocked and terribly heartbroken to learn that we have lost Ajit Dada in a tragic accident. One of Maharashtra's most dynamic leaders, he had zero tolerance for non-performance and constantly pushed and inspired those around him to excel. He never minced his words, his wit was unmatched, and he was deeply loved across the state. His untimely demise leaves behind a huge loss and an irreplaceable void. I have had the pleasure of interacting with him numerous times, will always remember for the kindness he showered upon me. My deepest condolences to the Pawar family, his loved ones, and millions of supporters," he posted.

The last rites of Ajit Pawar were performed with full state honours at the Vidya Pratishthan ground in Baramati, where his sons lit the funeral pyre and carried out the final rituals.

Ajit Pawar's wife, Sunetra Pawar, and sons, Parth and Jay, were also present.

Earlier today, officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and forensic teams reached the crash site in Baramati to investigate the plane crash that claimed the lives of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others.

The aircraft had crash-landed in Baramati on Wednesday morning.

The Pune Rural Police has registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) at the Baramati Taluka Police Station in connection with the crash and has initiated an investigation.
