Amidst the tragic demise of Sushant Singh Rajput, it is filmmaker Karan Johar who has found himself at the receiving end. Netizens have lashed out at him for supporting star kids instead of outsiders. In a recent chat with The New Indian Express, Saif Ali Khan reacted to the backlash faced by Karan Johar. Commenting on the same, the Omkara star said, "Karan has made himself a large symbol and because he has put on so many different hats it seems like he’s attracting a lot of flak for it which I am sure he doesn't deserve, he just happens to be a symbol for something at the moment that is not very popular, I hope the tide is over and better things that he is known for like a filmmaker and producer shines through."

Interestingly, without taking any names, the star claimed that he too was a “victim” of nepotism, alleging that someone’s father had called up a filmmaker to tell him not to cast him. However, he did share his happiness about seeing more people from film institutes now coming to the forefronts. Saif has often been at the forefront of the debate around nepotism in the film industry, a topic that has been reignited after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In 2017, Saif along with Varun Dhawan and Karan Johar had declared at an awards show, “Nepotism rocks!”. On the work front, the Nawab will be next seen in Sushant Singh Rajput's last film Dil Bechara in a cameo appearance.
