A glacier broke off at Joshimath in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on Sunday, leading to a massive flood in the Dhauli Ganga river and causing large-scale devastation in the upper reaches of the ecologically fragile Himalayas. More than 150 labourers working in a power project are missing. Eight bodies have been recovered in the rescue operation so far. Amid this, Bollywood stars also joined in praying for those whose lives were affected by the disaster. Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt shared their thoughts about the same and prayed for people in the state. Taking to her Instagram story, Alia expressed her thoughts and prayed for the people who were hit by the 'tragic' disaster. Along with her note, the actress even penned the helpline number for all those who need any kind of assistance or information about their loved ones who were caught in the disaster that took place in the Chamoli district.
Alia called the disaster 'tragic' in her note as she hoped for the safety of the people affected. Alia's Shaandaar co-star, Shahid Kapoor who has shot several times in Uttarakhand for his films like Batti Gul Meter Chalu and Jersey, prayed for the lives of the people who were affected by the glacier burst. He called the state and its people 'beautiful' as he recalled that he shot for many of his films in Uttarakhand. Sharing his prayers, the Jersey star joined Alia in praying for the affected people. Sharing his thoughts, Shahid wrote, "Prayers for all those affected in Uttarakhand. A beautiful state with wonderful people. Have shot there many a times."Earlier, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sara Ali Khan, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and others tweeted after the disaster and hoped that people of the state would be safe. Actor, Anupam Kher, took to Twitter and shared a video that captured the effects of the bursting glacier and the increased water level in the river.
