Mumbai, Aug 18 Actresses Shivangi Joshi, and Surbhi Chandna on Sunday slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, over the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor in Kolkata's R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, and demanded justice for the victim.

Taking to Instagram Stories, Shivangi, who has 9.6 million followers on the photo sharing application, dropped a picture of Mamata, with a long note written along with it.The post read as: "Why is it that despite being a woman CM, the most heinous crimes against women are happening in Mamata's West Bengal and why is she so insensitive towards these grave issues?"

"Called it a suicide. Didn't give the body to the family. Gave a great job to the criminal. Destroyed evidence. Said 'people shouldn't protest on the streets instead mourn quietly'. If any of you still support this WOMAN who tried to save rapists and murderers...SHAME ON YOU!!! Justice delayed, justice denied," the post added.

Surbhi also shared the same post on her Instagram Stories section.

On the work front, Shivangi made her acting debut in 2013 with 'Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi' in which she played the role of Trisha. She then went on to play Aayat Haider in 'Beintehaa'.She also played the lead Poonam Thakur in 'Begusarai', opposite Vishal Aditya Singh. The show also starred Shweta Tiwari, and Sartaj Gill in pivotal roles.

Shivangi is best known for playing Naira Singhania in one of the longest running shows 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai'.

She has also featured in 'Yeh Hai Aashiqui', and 'Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya'.Most recently she starred in 'Barsatein-Mausam Pyaar Ka', alongside Kushal Tandon.

Shivangi has also been a part of the web series 'Jab We Matched', and participated in the stunt based reality show 'Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 12'.

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Surbhi marked her TV debut in 2009 with a cameo in the longest-running sitcom 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah'. After a gap of four years, she played Suzanne in the show 'Ek Nanad Ki Khushiyon Ki Chaabi… Meri Bhabhi'.

She then essayed the role of Haya in 'Qubool Hai'. Surbhi has been a part of shows like 'Ishqbaaaz', 'Dil Boley Oberoi', 'Sanjivani', and 'Naagin 5'.

She was last featured in the show 'Sherdil Shergill'.
