Mumbai, June 29 Actress Shweta Tripathi Sharma, who is gearing up for the third season of the superhit streaming series 'Mirzapur', visited Varanasi on Saturday ahead of the show's release.

The actress spoke with IANS and shared that she feels blessed to be chosen by Kashi to visit the city every year.

Shweta sought the blessings of Lord Shiva at Kashi Vishwanath Temple and expressed her delight at visiting the city.

The actress told IANS: "Varanasi calls me every year, and I feel so blessed to visit the city each time. I first visited during the promotions of 'Masaan'. I feel Kashi has chosen me; that’s why I come here every year for the past few years. I came here last year to attend the wedding ceremony of my trainer, Tridev Pandey, earlier, I came here for the shoot of ‘Mirzapur’ and my other shows like ‘Escaype Live’ and ‘Kaalkoot’."

Sharing her itinerary with IANS, Shweta said: “I got to seek blessings from God in Kashi, ate kachoris, and worked out as well. I saw the Ganga Aarti and prayed for the success of 'Mirzapur', which releases on July 5.”

The actress is set to ring in her birthday on July 6, a day after the release of the third season of the show.

Shweta said: “The third season of the show is very special for me in the sense that people will see my work on my birthday."

In Mirzapur, Shweta essays the role of Golu Gupta, who takes up weapons after her sister and her love interest are killed by Munna Tripathi (played by Divyenndu). Her character has the most intriguing arc, as she goes from being nonviolent to having revenge on her mind. Her character is also quite sexually liberated and has a liking for BDSM, as seen in the last season.

Talking about how people in Kashi address her, the actress told IANS: “People here mainly call me ‘Golu didi', which I find really cute. The other names I hear are ‘Golu Devi’ and ‘Golu Don.’ Working on 'Mirzapur' has been a great experience as I get to jam with so many talented artists.”

She expressed her gratitude to the audience for making 'Mirzapur' such a huge hit.

Shweta said: “I’m grateful to the audience for the kind of love they have shown for 'Mirzapur'. I know people who have watched it 25 or 15 times. You don’t always get such a response for a show or a film.”
