Actors Sophie Turner and Jessica Chastain want to normalise strong female characters and empower women with the kind of roles they take up.

After playing Sansa Stark in HBO's 'Game of Thrones' and portraying Jean Grey in 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix', Turner is taking up more roles to inspire women.

'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' marks the first film in the franchise whose main character is a woman. Turner and co-star Jessica Chastain, who plays a shapeshifter that mpulates Turner's character talked to E! News about playing prominent and strong female roles.

"Growing up, I didn't really feel like...I'd seen a superhero movie with a really strong female at the helm," Turner told E! News.

"Now, it's so great that young girls and young boys and your daughter can grow up and watch this movie and look at it and say, 'Oh wow, what a strong, well-rounded, accurate representation of a woman," she added.

Echoing similar sentiments, Chastain said, "Also, all women are strong and all women are incredible and powerful. It'll be nice, when we get to the point too when we make these films, that we don't have to say, 'It's great to see a strong female character, well, it's just normal.'"

"Yeah," Turner agreed. "It's just a character."

'Dark Phoenix' is the sequel to 'X-Men: Apocalypse' and the seventh installment in the film series. The film will also feature Jennifer Lawrence, returning as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Evan Peters as Quicksilver.

The trailer of the film gave an in-depth look at Jean Grey's journey from an unwanted child who accidentally contributes to a car accident, to a young woman who resorts to seeking out counsel form Magneto (played by Michael Fassbender) after feeling betrayed by Charles Xavier (played by James McAvoy).

Written and directed by Simon Kinberg who also served as the scriptwriter for the 2006's 'X-Men: The Last Stand', the movie is all set to release on June 7, this year.
