Washington DC [US], April 11 : Filmmaker Steven Spielberg has said that 'Interstellar' turned out to be a "much better movie" after Christopher Nolan took over the project, according to People.

In a recent interview, Spielberg revealed that he had been attached to the film for nearly a year during its early development stages. "I was involved with 'Interstellar' for a year," he said. "Kip Thorne brought me the project with Lynda Obst, the producer, and I became fascinated with it. I spent a lot of time at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, talking to the scientists there and the aerospace engineers."

Spielberg also shared that Jonathan Nolan worked on early drafts of the script but the project did not fully come together under his direction. "It didn't stick," he said, according to People.

Recalling a conversation with Jonathan Nolan, Spielberg said, "Jonah actually said, 'If there comes a point where you decide not to make this movie, I can tell you who's gonna grab it. He's already bugging me about it. And that's my brother Chris,'" according to People.

"He was absolutely right. The second I decided not to make it, Chris jumped on board, probably the next day," Spielberg added.

Praising Nolan's vision, Spielberg said, "Interstellar was a much better movie in Chris Nolan's hands than it would have been in mine," according to People.

The film, released in 2014, starred Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain, and went on to become a major box office success.

Actor Timothee Chalamet, who appeared in the film, recently recalled reconnecting with Nolan at a screening. "The whole experience with Nolan, I felt totally like 17 again," he said. "I went home, it was shocking ...That was a crazy car ride home for me. I was like, 'Holy..., I feel like, you know, the 13 years that elapsed haven't elapsed,'" according to People.

"We were taking pictures together ... and he throws me in a headlock and starts giving me a noogie," Chalamet added. "I'm like, 'Holy.., Chris Nolan's hitting me with a noogie right now.' "

"I said to him, 'Chris, I'm a 30-year-old man,' " he continued. "He said, 'Not to me, you're not.' "

Meanwhile, Nolan reflected on the film's evolving reception over time. "The project seems to touch people more and more year after year and sort of grows," he said. "For years, people would recognize me somewhere and talk about Dark Knight. But over the last 10 years it's become 'Interstellar'," according to People.

Spielberg is now set to return with his upcoming film Disclosure Day, while Nolan is preparing for the release of The Odyssey, according to People.
