Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan's Coolie No 1 will release on Amazon Prime Video on Christmas this year. The David Dhawan-directorial film joins the list of nine films to be released directly on the streaming platform. Coolie No 1 is a family comedy, remake of Govinda and Karisma Kapoor's 1995 film of the same name. Coolie No 1 was earlier scheduled to hit theatres on May 1, 2020. However, as cinema halls remained closed due to the coroanvirus pandemic, the makers decided to postpone its release. And now, the film will be released on a streaming platform. Varun Dhawan took to social media to announce that Coolie No 1 will release on Christmas.
The original was also helmed by David Dhawan. It featured Govinda and Karisma Kapoor in the lead role. Varun has stepped into the boots of Govinda, who played the lead in 1995 blockbuster hit of the same name and Sara will be seen playing the leading lady which was originally played by Karisma Kapoor. It will be produced by Vashu Bhagnani, who also bankrolled the 1995 classic. It also features actors like Paresh Rawal, Javed Jaffrey, Rajpal Yadav, Johnny Lever, Sahil Vaid and Shikha Talsania in pivotal parts. The others film, which will be released on Amazon Prime Video, include Rajkummar Rao's Chhlaang, Bhumi Pednekar's Durgavati, Kannada film Bheema Sena Nala Maharaja, Middle Class Melodies (Telugu) starring Anand Devarakonda, Maara (Tamil) starring R Madhavan, Manne number 13 (Kannada) starring, Chetan Gandharva, Halal Love Story (Malayalam) and Suriya starrer Soorarai Pottru (Tamil).
