105 new cases take total to 871 in Gujarat with 36 deaths

Gujarat on Thursday reported 105 new Corona positive cases with three deaths. The state is now rapidly inching towards the one thousand mark with the total of 871 positive cases and 36 deaths.

Gandhinagar, April 16 Gujarat on Thursday reported 105 new Corona positive cases with three deaths. The state is now rapidly inching towards the one thousand mark with the total of 871 positive cases and 36 deaths.

With an increased and intensified surveillance and testing inside the hotspots of Gujarat, especially the walled city of Ahmedabad, the health authorities confirmed 105 new positive cases were detected in the last 12 hours in the state, out of which Ahmedabad has 42. The Ahmedabad Municipal corporation also added another cluster in the western part of the city as containment zone.

As the spread of local infection continues to grow in Gujarat, in the last 12 hours Ahmedabad saw 42 new positive cases springing up (25 M, 17 F), followed by Surat with 35 cases (13 M, 22 F), Anand 8 (5 M, 3 F), Vadodara 6 (4 M, 2 F), Banaskantha 4 (3 M, 1 F), Narmada 4 (2 M, 2 F), Rajkot 3 (1 M, 2 F), and a female each in Gandhinagar and Kheda and one male in Panchmahal district.

Three more corona positive patients succumbed to the virus on Thursday, as a male (62) admitted in the GK General hospital, Bhuj, died of the virus. Another male (80) from Botad with comorbidity like lung disease, admitted in Kasthabhanjan COVID hospital Salangpur, died. A female (60) with Diabetes, admitted in the SVP hospital Ahmedabad, also died due to the virus.

This takes the total positive cases in Gujarat to 871 with 36 deaths. Nearing the 500 mark, Ahmedabad has the maximum number of positive cases (492), followed by Vadodara (127), Surat (86), Rajkot (27), Bhavnagar (26), Anand (25), Gandhinagar (17), Patan (14), Bharuch (13), Panchmahals, Banaskantha and Narmada (6 each), Chotta Udepur (5), Kutch and Mehsana (4 each), Porbandar (3), Gir-Somnath, Dahod and Kheda (two each) and Jamnagar, Morbi, Sabarkantha and Botad (one each).

Out of the total 771 active cases, the condition of 766 is stable, whereas the condition of 5 is critical and they are on ventilator.

"In the last 24 hours, we have taken 2,971 samples for the testing, where 176 have been found positive, 2,795 negative. The total number of test carried out by the health department till now is 20,204 out of which 871 are positive," said health officials.

The total number of quarantined in the state is 14,906, where 12,774 are home quarantined, 1975 in government facilities and 165 in private facilities.

With more and more positive cases of Corona emerging from Ahmedabad's hotspots or cluster areas, the health authorities intensified the surveillance and testing in these areas.

However, even in the areas outside the hotspots, the number of positive cases is rising, which is a cause of concern for the health authorities in the state.
