Gurugram, July 24 A total of 13,000 people have been challaned so far in Gurugram for allegedly defying the coronavirus-induced lockdown, police said on Friday.

Gurugram DCP (Headquarters) Nikita Gahlawat said that majority of offenders are booked for breaching social distancing norms and not wearing masks. Besides, residents are also booked for spitting on roads as well.

"We have collected Rs 64 lakh as fine from offenders and deposited in state government treasury," Gahlawat said.

Earlier, District Civil Surgeon Virender Yadav had requested Gurugram police for strict implementation of Covid and disaster management norms.

"We have received 57 complaints pertaining to large gathering at public places which are violations of pandemic act. We have acted swiftly and registered 20 FIRs under relevant sections in the district," Yadav said.

He further pointed out that implementation of norms are essential but residents, at the same time, should also understand the situation and cooperate as law abiding citizen.

Amit Khatri, DM of Gurugram said that recovery rate in the district is now 85 per cent and rate of doubling the cases reached to 40 days which is impressive.

"At one time, the rate of doubling the cases was 4. Now, it is 40 day but it does not mean people should relax or make careless approach. We need to be more alert and caution at this point of time to strongly fight with coronavirus," Khatri said.

Private and government labs of district are collecting 2,500 samples for RTPCR test everyday. Besides, rapid antigen tests are also on.

Gurugram administration has collected 87,972 samples so far and positivity rate was 8.43 per cent. 36,077 persons have underwent rapid antigen tests till date.

Meanwhile, Gurugram has registered 1 death on Friday adding the toll up to 120. Besides, 115 positive cases have been reported here. The total number of cases in the district is 8,393 and 7,110 patients have been discharged after recoveries.
