Andhra Pradesh reported 62 new cases that were detected in the 24 hours ending 10 a.m., Friday. The state's tally of positive cases till date stands at 2,514, while there are 728 active cases that are receiving treatment in various hospitals.

The state nodal officer reported that 8,415 samples were tested during the past 24 hours as against 8,092 samples that were tested during the preceding testing cycle.

With one more death reported from the Krishna district, the death toll in the state climbed to 55 on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, with 51 persons cured, the state's tally of the cured persons climbed to 1,731.

On Friday too, a substantial number of positive cases were attributed to people with a travel history to the Koyambedu market in Chennai. While Chittoor district reported 14 cases, Nellore reported four cases with travel histories to the Koyambedu market, which has since been closed.

Andhra Pradesh has been the frontrunner in terms of conducting COVID-19 tests.

As on May 22, the state has tested 2,84,119 samples, behind Maharashtra's 3,19,710, and Tamil Nadu's 3,71,865.

The Andhra Pradesh average of 5,321 tests conducted per million population, ranks below Delhi's 7,917, and Jammu & Kashmir's 7,934. A total of 2,719, 434 tests have been conducted pan India, with an average of 1,961 tests conducted per million population.

The cumulative tally of COVID-19 cases among the returnees from other states remained 153. However, the active cases tally stands at 128 as 25 persons in this category have been discharged.
