Srinagar, April 7 Authorities on Tuesday declared the densely populated Eidgah locality of Srinagar city as the red zone.

After three persons tested positive from Eidgah locality, authorities on Tuesday declared this densely populated area as the red zone to check the spread of coronavirus infection.

Security forces have placed coils of razor fitted concertina wire to block entry and exit points to prevent free passage of people into and outside the area.

Two other densely populated areas in Srinagar city, Chattabal and Jawahar Nagar have already been categorised as the red zones following the discovery of COVID-19 patients in these areas.

It must be mentioned that while Chattabal and Eidgah are part of the old city, Jawahar Nagar is an uptown area dotted with shops, departmental stores and residential houses, including scores of government flats and quarters occupied by civil servants and protected politic, etc.

Villages in Pulwama, Ganderbal and Bandipora have also been declared as the red zones by the concerned district magistrates.

The most affected among the red zone areas in Kashmir is the Hajin area in Bandipora district.

Authorities are ensuring that all essential supplies to the areas declared as the red zones are maintained without any break.

It is only that the movement of people into and from these areas are strictly regulated and monitored to ensure that the pandemic does not assume the dangerous proportion of community transmission in Kashmir.
