Bengaluru, April 11 Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda has donated Rs 1 lakh each to the relief funds of the Prime Minister, and Karnataka and Kerala Chief Ministers, a party official said on Saturday.

"Out of the pension Gowda receives, he has contributed Rs 1 lakh each to the PM-CARES Fund, Karnataka CM Relief Fund and Kerala CM's Distress Relief Fund," said the official in a statement here.

The Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM- Cares Fund) was set up on March 28 as a dedicated national fund to deal with an emergency or distress situation like Covid-19 pandemic and provide relief to the affected.

Contributions to the fund are exempted from income tax.

The Karnataka and Kerala relief funds were also set up recently to mobilise resources for meeting the expenditure incurred in fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

The JD-S is a part of the Left Front government in the neighbouring Kerala state.

Gowda, a former prime minister, has assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his support to the Centre in its fight against coronavirus when the latter called him on April 5 from New Delhi.
